Following an invitation from HSBC, we visited the bank's office together with a group of students from our university. We were glad to help extend this invitation to our academic community and explore the impact of AI on modern risk management together.

Foundation of the Association

The Financial Modelling Student Association was registered on 29 July 2002 at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics at AGH. Its academic supervisor became dr Jerzy Dzieża, who continues to hold this role to this day. The founder and first president was Konrad Augustyński; Daniel Delimata and Robert Zima also served on the board. The association had 11 members at the time.

That same year, Konrad Augustyński and Kazimierz Chłopek presented a paper at the 39th Session of the Scientific Associations of the AGH Metallurgy Division:

2003

Official Website Launch

A year after its founding, the association launched its official website — an important step in building the KNMF brand and reaching a broader audience of applied mathematics students at AGH.

2011

I KKMF — The Flagship Project Is Born

On 25–27 November 2011, the first edition of the Cracow Conference of Financial Mathematics took place. The main theme was financial market modelling; the principal partner was OSTC Poland. The conference quickly built a strong reputation and attracted an ever-growing number of speakers from leading financial institutions each year.

2013–2016

Expanding the Conference Format

Subsequent editions of KKMF progressively broadened the range of topics:

  • ▸II KKMF (2013) — foreign exchange and interest rate markets.
  • ▸III KKMF (2014) — "Financial Engineering"; co-funded by the Lesław A. Paga Foundation scholarship and an AGH Rector's grant.
  • ▸IV KKMF (2015) — risk in finance and energy; the first dedicated thematic workshops.
  • ▸V KKMF (2016) — mathematical methods in quantitative finance; renewed support from the Paga Foundation and the AGH Rector.
2017–2019

The Era of Workshops and Industry Partnerships

The KKMF programme evolved towards practical skills:

  • ▸VI KKMF (2017) — workshops in VBA, C++ and Python; focus on model implementation.
  • ▸VII KKMF (2018) — conference structured in thematic blocks; collaboration with the GPW Foundation.
  • ▸VIII KKMF (2019) — three tracks: academic, stock exchange, and workshop; sessions in VBA, R and Python.
2021

IX KKMF — Online Edition

In the face of the pandemic, KNMF continued its activities — the IX edition of KKMF was held entirely online via Zoom. The paper competition was expanded to include doctoral students and graduates. This demonstrated that the association can adapt efficiently to changing conditions without compromising its academic quality.

2022–2024

Return to In-Person and Anniversary Editions

After the online edition, the conference returned to its in-person format with renewed energy:

  • ▸X KKMF (13–14 May 2022) — business and investment tracks; paper competition in a new format.
  • ▸XI KKMF (14–15 April 2023) — under the patronage of the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, AGH; post-conference social event.
  • ▸XII KKMF (5–6 April 2024) — speakers from HSBC, UBS, Citi, IBM, XTB, Euroclear and NBP; record attendance.
Today

Over 20 Years of Uninterrupted Activity

From humble beginnings with 11 members, KNMF has grown into one of the most active student research associations at AGH. Over two decades of annual conferences, workshops with world-class banks (HSBC, UBS, Citi, IBM), and trips to national events have shaped hundreds of graduates who now work in financial markets across Europe. Academic supervision has been continuously provided by dr Jerzy Dzieża.
